About Tumkur Co-operative Milk Producers' Societies Union Limited
Tumkur Co-op Milk Union was certified as ISO 22000: 2005 from DNV ,and now upgrading to ISO 22000:2018(under process) from Bureau vertis.
The Union established under World Bank project in 1975 and registered under co-operative act on 30th March 1977 covering the entire Tumkur district as its area of operation.
The dairy development activities started during 1976 by the Karnataka Dairy Development Corporation (KDDC) with the object of supporting the marketing activities of the Bangalore market. Hence, 30,000 litres capacity farm cooler was established. Subsequently, during 1981, this has been converted as 60 TLPD feeder plant.
The processing capacity of the dairy was increased to 1 lakh litres during 2005 under Perspective plan phase I. Due to the rapid increase in milk procurement, again the processing capacity of the dairy is increased to 3.25 lakh litres per day. The new packing block with increased processing capacity was inaugurated on 16-09-2013.The new flexi milk packing block was inaugurated on 06-10-2016.
Apart from this Union owns 4 chilling centres at Sira (20 TLPD), Yediyur (60 TLPD), KB Cross (60 TLPD) and Madhugiri (60 TLPD). Besides this, Union has 156 Bulk milk coolers and 939 Automatic Milk Collection centres.
The Union sells milk and milk products under the brand name of “Nandini”.
